On Friday morning, a spokesman from American Airlines Inc revealed that 1600 jobs will soon be cut.
American Airlines, which is a part of Fort Worth, will cut 1,200 flight attendant positions, 300 airport services positions, 50 cargo service positions and 50 others. Cuts for flight attendant positions will mainly be made on seniority basis but exit packages are also being offered to employees who may want to exit voluntarily for an early retirement.
Previously, American Airlines had also announced 40 job cuts in its Kansas maintenance facility.
A letter sent to the American Airlines employees by Jeff Brundage, senior vice president of human resources, on Thursday said, “These reductions come as a result of our efforts to ‘right size’ our operation and respond to the weaker demand for travel by reducing our schedule, including seasonal changes, and addressing lower-than-expected attrition.”
Additionally, there will be more cuts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
